BLACK FOREST ICE CREAM SUNDAES (German schwarzwaldbecher, for one)

premium vanilla ice cream
five or six cherries, chilled, stoned and halved, plus one whole cherry as garnish (fresh or frozen, but not maraschino)
chopped, toasted walnuts
a tablespoon or two kirsch, or to taste
sweetened whipped cream
- Fill a chilled parfait or sherbet glass with vanilla ice cream. Top with cherries, walnuts, a little kirsch, chocolate sauce and sweetened whipped cream. Garnish with a whole cherry.
