SABRE “OLD FASHIONED” FROSTED ACRYLIC FLATWARE
Perfect for an elegant picnic, a classy tailgate, the Mad Hatter’s tea party or a summer dinner in the garden, I like to use this flatware interspersed with my mother’s ornate silver service on Valentine’s Day.
Frances Gelb, born into a family of goldsmiths, developed an early respect and passion for the craft trades. He worked in his family’s business until, in 1993, he opened his own cutlery business in Paris. The name Sabre came from the first pattern designed by the brand.
Partnered with his wife, Pascale, the Gelb’s brand became known for meticulous craftsmanship, vibrant color, modern materials and shapes that are sometimes traditional, but often playful and contemporary. In their own words, “Sabre has become the embodiment of a table of madness!”
Their humorous “Old Fashioned” collection echoes the shapes of cutlery from an earlier era, but is made from scratch free, frosted acrylic in a wide range of vivid colors. It’s simple, solid, practical look is distinctly modern. The Gelb’s describe their work as “a story of life, of good humour, of creation, a story that is a quarter of a century long and above all a story of surprises…and with more to come.”
