MENU: CHRISTMAS MORNING
There are two goals for the cook who provides victuals Christmas morning: The first is not to be slicing and dicing in the kitchen and miss the fun of unwrapping gifts, and the second is not to provide so much food that no one is hungry for Christmas dinner. This menu meets both goals. The muffins can be made in advance. The strata is assembled a day ahead and all you have to do Christmas morning is pop it into the oven (but remember to let it stand for 5 minutes or so after you take it out. It needs to collect itself before being served.) The fruit compote marinates overnight, and the hot chocolate is a short simmer on top of the stove.
